Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic treatment used to improve many skin and beauty concerns. At Changes Medical Spa & Laser Center, Dr. Jackson may recommend microneedling to treat your:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Skin pigmentation
  • Large pores
  • Stretch marks

By stimulating your skin’s collagen production, it also rejuvenates your appearance and gives you brighter, smoother, and tighter skin.

Collagen is a structural protein found in the dermal layer of your skin that’s responsible for providing strength and elasticity. As you get older, collagen production decreases, which leads to the sagging and creases associated with the visible signs of aging.

What is microneedling?

With microneedling, Dr. Jackson and the team of licensed and trained estheticians and nurses use a special pen equipped with tiny needles to stimulate collagen production. During your beauty treatment, your provider uses the pen and tiny needles to create microtears in the surface layer of your skin.

The tiny tears simulate an injury, and your body delivers healing cells to the site to repair the damage, which induces collagen production to improve the look and strength of your skin.

Your regular microneedling session may take about 30 to 60 minutes. To ease discomfort prior to your session, Dr. Jackson may apply a numbing cream to your skin. Your skin may be red after your treatment, but downtime is unnecessary.

To get the best results from microneedling, you may need a series of treatments. Dr. Jackson reviews the specifics of your treatment plan at your free consultation.

What is radiofrequency microneedling?

Radiofrequency microneedling combines regular microneedling with radiofrequency energy to create dramatic results. During radiofrequency microneedling, Dr. Jackson uses a special microneedling tool that not only creates microtears in the surface of your skin but also delivers radiofrequency energy to the dermal layers of your skin at the same time.

The radiofrequency energy tightens the cells under your skin, which provides an immediate lift and smoothing of your wrinkles. It also stimulates collagen production in the deeper layers of your skin.

Like regular microneedling, you may need a series of radiofrequency microneedling treatments to get the best results.
